Our Story
New Ownership at the Marina
The van der Veen family purchased the Carousel Marina & Whale's Tale Restaurant in June of 2022. The van der Veen family has been a part of the Boothbay Harbor community as summer residents for 20 years and is excited to aid in creating great summer memories that they were fortunate enough to have. Boothbay Harbor is an unforgettable destination, and this family-owned business is excited to give you a great experience.
Jax van der Veen, the oldest daughter, is in the office or on the docks helping customers with
booking, answering general questions, making recommendations, or even catching your lines. Jax was a Division I athlete at Georgetown University and uses the skills and discipline to run a successful marina. Emma van der Veen is currently attending Georgetown University, and you can typically find her in the restaurant managing the daily service. Evan Hepburn is our dock master and head of our float & pier building operations who has been integral in updating and repairing the property. Michael and Marion van der Veen buzz around and help in absolutely any way they can when "vacationing" in Boothbay Harbor for the weekend.
Our Location
Where You Can Find Us
Located on the East side of Boothbay Harbor, it presents an unequivocal view of Maine's famous sunsets directly across the harbor from Carousel Marina. Equally pleasing is the ability to see firsthand the working boats and pleasure craft as they enter and leave the inner harbor.
Mariners can enjoy the facilities of Carousel Marina, including patio dining, clubhouse with TV room and game room, wireless internet service, easily accessible fuel dock, automobile parking, and overnight rooms available for the use of transient boaters or their guests.
Also, boaters can avail themselves of all the amenities of the town of Boothbay Harbor by walking across the quaint, nearby footbridge. It is a short walk from Carousel Marina to the center of town. There, shopping for groceries, gifts, souvenirs, etc., are all readily available and make for a very pleasant diversion while docked at Carousel Marina.
